The competition between prediction markets and sportsbooks is intense and there is some evidence that the former is encroaching on the latter’s customer base.
A survey by Fullstory, a behavioral data analytics company, says that amid the evolution of yes/no exchanges, 60% of bettors said prediction markets are altering how they use sportsbooks with 35% admitting that they’ve reduced usage of traditional sports wagering platforms as access to sports event contracts increased.
“Consumers are being presented with more options for how they can participate in online gaming, creating a more competitive landscape where a seamless digital experience is increasingly becoming part of the value proposition,” said Jason Wolf, president of Fullstory, in a statement. “The brands that understand how consumers are navigating, comparing, and engaging with their platforms in real-time can identify where friction is getting in the way of trust and retention.”

Veikkaus, Finland’s state-owned gambling operator, has continued to restructure its internal organisation in preparation for the country’s newly liberalised gambling market, which will open on 1 July 2027.
The reshuffle aims to strengthen the company’s competitive capabilities amid evolving market conditions.
The latest round of changes, announced on Wednesday, includes 15 existing roles being terminating, and 17 new positions established. These will impact several of its units, including the Data & AI department, two business units and finance teams.

Bengtsson said the split between casino and sports betting for SunBet was roughly 90% to 10% in favour of casino, with Sun International “under-indexing on sportsbook”.
But Sun International views that as an opportunity, with Bengtsson stating: “We think the market overall is probably somewhere around 35%-40% sportsbook.
“So that is the delta we have to close by delivering a better product and better operational intensity in our sports business.”
